HAYS RALLY A HUGE SUCCESS
John and Carrie Hays hosted the Southern Indiana Unit’s October Installation Rally at their home at Radcliff, Kentucky and it was a huge success.
A total of 10 members attended plus Region 5 President and First Lady, Bob and Lee Moyers.
Attending were: Larry and Linda Abrams, Daris and Nancy Broglin, Morris and Shirley Clodfelter, John and Carrie Hays, George and Mary Law, Billy and Beverly Miller, Junior and June Miller, Mike and Sarah Miller, Bill and Barbara Schrader and Don and Marlene Swigart.
The Hays rural home covered several acres. On the land next to their home John had constructed a large garage, which provided the meeting and eating room for the rally. The garage was circled by a rock drive-way and the trailers were parked along the drive-way. It was a near perfect setting for the rally.
Morris Clodfelter selected an area in front of the garage to build his fire on Friday for his annual apple butter making activity. It was such an ideal setting that President Larry Abrams decided it would be an excellent location for the business meeting Friday morning with Morris stirring his apple butter in the middle of the activities.
The rally was the first for new members Mike and Sarah Miller from nearby Elizabethtown, Kentucky. They have two daughters, Hanna and Paige. The Millers were warmly welcomed.
During the business meeting the Southern Indiana Unit activities for the next year were announced.
– Dec. 11, 2008 – Christmas Party at the Moonlight Barbecue in Owensboro, Kentucky at 11 a.m. Central Standard Time.
–April 16, 2009 – Spring Luncheon. Log-In Restaurant on Waterton Road on U.S. 41 north of Evansville (just north of I-64) at 4 p.m.
–May 12-15. Spring Rally. Audubon State Park, Henderson, Kentucky.
– Aug. 13-15. Rally at Odon City Park, Odon, Indiana.

It was also noted during the business meeting that the Southern Indiana Unit will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2009.
Incoming president, Billy Miller, announced that the monthly dinner at the Sirloin Stockade in Evansville will be moved from Tuesday night to Thursday night.
A highlight of the festival was a trip on Saturday to the Glendale Crossings Festival.
Glendale Crossings is a community of 300, about 12 miles south of the Hays home, that each fall hosts a Festival that is one of the top 10 in Kentucky each year. The festival had more than 200 vendors set up, a large morning parade, a couple of excellent restaurants and antique malls and attracted an estimated 20,000 people. Quite an event.
Officer installation was conducted Saturday evening.
2009 Southern Indiana Unit officers are: President – Billy Miller; Vice President – John Hays; Treasurer – Linda Abrams; Secraetary – Nancy Broglin.
Sunday morning the Southern Indiana Unit members attended church services at John and Carrie’s church, the North Side Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, before departing for home.
